Relationships are at the heart of what we do.
Mitewekan, which roughly translates to “the spirit behind the heartbeat,” hosted their annual gathering in Calgary towards the end of 2025. Mitewekan Knowledge Holders, community partners, academic collaborators and colleagues from across the country attended the gathering.
We were honoured by the presence of Blackfoot Elders Reg and Rose Crowshoe (pictured above), who opened and closed the gathering for us in a good way and generously shared their songs, wisdom and knowledge.
The gathering fostered meaningful connections and created a safe space where Elders and Knowledge Holders, community partners and academic colleagues listened and learned from one another.
We thank everyone for contributing not only to the gathering, but also to Mitewekan as a whole. We look forward to seeing you all again at the next gathering!
